US Immigration

Topic- US immigration is a controversial environmental, political, social, moral,  ethical, and an economic issue !

Background- The US population has increased 15 million from 2001 to 2006 which equates into a  huge +0.6% annual growth rate.  Since 1992, the US has ushered in 1 million legal immigrants per year and about 525,000 illegal (unauthorized) immigrants per year. Many people think this growth rate will severely impact America's prosperity in future generations.

Key Questions-  What should be done with the current US immigration policies?
Should we increase or decrease the number of legal immigrants?
What should be done the previous and future illegal immigrants?

To Do-
1) Read pages 191 to 192 in your textbook and take notes on your outline.

2) Look over this recent news  about immigrants in the NY Times

3) Look over these web sites-

4) Type a short "Talking Points"  paper.
State your position, then list, and briefly explain your reasons to support your position.

5) Come to class ready with your "talking points"  to discuss this controversial issue!
