How did the RCK/Yali Connection Begin?

The RCK/Yali Connection truly began in 2007 when Joshua Hill, a former Roy C. Ketcham High School graduate, began teaching English at the Yali Middle School in Changsha, China.  Through videoconference, Josh facilitated the meeting of Yali educators, Chen Guangwen and Peng Yu to Wappingers Central School District educators, Dr. Charles Hill, David Walker, and Mandy Dwight.  Together this team worked to establish communication between groups of students at RCK and Yali.

Students began to learn about each other through e-mail and frequent videoconferences.  In September of 2007, students from Yali were able to visit Roy C. Ketcham High School students during a trip to the United States.   The two groups of students were able to meet with each other both in home and school settings.  The meeting was very rewarding and the groups of students were able to learn much from each other.

As 2008 arrives, RCK and Yali look forward to participating in ongoing communications.
